sabi ng wit ko, WANTED: SOUL.

yesterday was a very important day. at 9am, off to Manila Cathedral I went to witness the ordination of Edric, one of my high school best friends, into priesthood.

(JS Prom)
it was surreal in the sense that he really is “Father Edric” now. our barkada has been calling him that for the longest time but it became official just yesterday. Father Edric acknowledged his calling early on in life and he stuck to that noble purpose, to God’s purpose for him. it has literally taken a decade for him to get where is he now. so when i cried during the ordination yesterday (yeah yeah i’m a sap), i knew it wasn’t just hormones nor standing on my 4-inch platforms for 3 hours (thanks friends, sana sinabi ninyo sa protestanteng Jojie na mahaba ang ordinasyon at dapat mag-flats ako). it was the unfolding of God’s work that extremely moved me. he did it. Father Edric actually did it!
our Jewel, in her normal poetic self, put my (our? umiyak rin siya e. haha!) emotional state into perspective by saying that Edric’s ordination is a milestone for all of us. we’ve been friends with each other for ten years now and we couldn’t be any prouder of him. and even though our barkada is quite a handful, Edric just laughs off our craziness and keeps telling us that he constantly prays for us. (magpapakabait na raw si Winkle, promise.) we also got to think about our own lives: what have we been committing ourselves to for the past ten years? how far have we come? do we actually know where we intend to go?
with Father Edric as our inspiration, i’m sure, we’ll get there guys. para saan pa’t tayo ang orihinal na Parokya ni Edric. :)
(Father Edric’s official parokya is now the Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora de Guia, Ermita, Manila.)
